Resources for Sexual Assault Survivors in BC

There are many resources available across Canada for sexual assault survivors. In today’s blog article, we are going to list some of the specific resources available in British Columbia.

If the sexual assault has just happened or you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1 and ask for police. You can also go to the nearest hospital emergency room if you are able to.

You can also call 8-1-1, which is toll-free, and available 24/7. You can speak to a medical professional, and they can assist you with further resources.

There is a 24/7 Rape Crisis Phone Line at 1-604-872-8212 for free and confidential information, help and referral.

Another resource is the Women Against Violence Against Women Rape Crisis Centre at 1-604-255-6344 or 1-877-392-7583 (toll-free) for advice, counselling, referrals, and hospital accompaniment.

Call the Crime Victim Assistance Program at 1-866-660-3888. It’s toll-free. Police departments can also connect you with victim assistance.

Children can call 310-1234 (no area code is required) if you need assistance and protection with help from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Children can also call 1-800-668-6868 for counselling 24/7.

There is also a special Senior Abuse phone line which is toll-free at 1-866-437-1940.

You can also call VictimLink BC, toll-free, for immediate crisis support and referral, 24/7, at 1-800-563-0808. This number is for British Columbia and Yukon. You can also text 1-604-836-6381.

The list above is not all inclusive, but these are the best-known resources that are available seven days per week and 24 hours per day.

Sexual assault is vastly underreported throughout the world. Don’t be one of those statistics. Report the crime and take advantage of the resources available to help you. Each health authority within BC has a long list of additional resources available for victims of sexual assault.
