Assault Defences for South Asian Women in Surrey
If a south Asian woman from Surrey was accused of assault, the defence strategies would be similar to defence strategies used for other criminal offences. And we will summarize some of the most common potential defence strategies below. A defence strategy is chosen based on the evidence, the particular case, and the defence lawyer’s strengths, not the skin colour or sex of the accused.
Some Common Defence Strategies
- Self-Defence
- Alibi (the accused was not at the scene of the crime)
- Sow Doubt (the prosecution has not proved anything)
- Entrapment
- Insanity
That said, it would be very unusual for a south Asian woman from Surrey to be accused of a violent crime, such as assault, rightfully or wrongfully. While minorities are commonly accused of all kinds of crimes, women are not because of sexism in both criminal behaviour and the justice system.
Statistically, women most often commit less violent crimes. And in court, both judges and juries have biases that make it hard for them to believe a woman would or could commit a violent crime, so it is a hard case to make for the prosecution unless there is overwhelming evidence pointing to guilt.
Women, such as south Asian women in Surrey are much more likely—statistically—to be the victims of crimes than the perpetrators. This is because such a woman is both a minority and a woman. For this reason, we would offer the same advice that we offer to everyone accused of a crime. Do not make any statements to the police or anyone else about the crime and hire a lawyer as soon as possible. That is your best chance for a favourable outcome.
